Though a gruelling job, cleaning your oven is perhaps one of the most important tasks to complete within your home, because let’s face it, nobody wants to see grime and bacteria collecting where their food is cooked. This is why we have created this nifty blog with tips and tricks on the easiest way to clean your oven.

Firstly, the most important part: what you will need. Selecting the best products to clean your oven is essential to create that immaculate finish that you desire, and we have the products you need right here:

  • Stainless Steel Spiral Scourers 40g (Pack of 10) – these scourers are perfect for heavy-duty cleaning in the kitchen, which is exactly what you will need them for. They can scrub off the dirt, grime and even baked-on food. Scourers are easily rinsed and reused, meaning they are perfect for your oven cleaning needs again and again!
  • *Andarta Oven Cleaner (750ml) – our Oven Cleaner of choice has got to be Andarta, this product is tough on even the hardest to shift food particles and can be used on both warm and cool surfaces without compromising the products performance ability. Not only this but it clings to vertical surfaces for the fast removal of kitchen grime including blood and other baked-on food products, making it the ideal accomplice to a scourer.
  • Rubber Gloves M/W Green (12 Pairs) – It is very important when completing a task like cleaning your oven that you don’t use disposable gloves. There is no point risking breakage for the sake of expense so it's important to ensure you have gloves with excellent strength that is also torn and puncture resistant, making them perfect for reuse.
  • Vileda Mediumweight Cloth (Pack 10) – Finally, to finish the job, a damp cloth. This will wipe off the grime once the cleaner has been applied and removed all the mess. You may need more than one depending on how dirty your oven is, so these are perfect as once used they can be easily washed in the washing machine.
  • OPTIONAL: Black Medium Duty Drawstring Sack Roll 10 – If you decide to go down the route of putting your trays in a bag whilst they clean, then these ones are ideal. They are strong enough to use without breaking, whilst also having a drawstring to prevent any product from leaking out.

*Use within a well-ventilated area to prevent any excessive inhalation of the product.

Now, to the nitty-gritty, a step-by-step guide on how to clean your oven (as tried and tested by us!):

  1. Firstly, an optional step but probably quite useful one, if you have any old papers, magazines or rags, line the floor around the oven with them! This will prevent the grease and grime from your oven from leaking onto the floor and causing any staining or grubby marks.
  2. Take absolutely everything out of your oven. Trays, thermometers, racks, if it's loose and can be removed, take it out! This will allow you to clean these all separately instead of trying to reach around awkward crevices, and lets you scrub with ease.
  3. With your rubber gloves on and at the ready, spray your Oven Cleaner all over the inside of your appliance, being sure to cover all the areas from top to bottom, and getting into the nooks and crannies. Then, close the door and let the spray sit for around 15 minutes, this will give it enough time to get to work on the grimy surfaces to loosen the grease so it can be easily scrubbed off.
  4. As the Oven Cleaner is developing, it is time to clean the trays and racks that you previously removed from the oven. Firstly, spray the trays with the Andarta Oven Cleaner, once again being sure to cover all of the surfaces. Next there are a couple of routes you can take, you can either place the racks into bin bags and seal them closed for 15 minutes or if you have a large sink (or even a bathtub!) available, place them in there.
  5. After 15 minutes has passed, open the oven and wipe down the surface with a damp cloth, being sure to scrub any stubborn food particles or grime with your scourer. Make sure to be really thorough so you don’t leave any left-over residue or chemical behind!
  6. Once you have finished cleaning the inside of your oven, grab your trays and racks and rinse them thoroughly with warm, soapy water or wipe them with a damp cloth as you did with the oven, being sure to scrub any really hard to remove food deposit with the scourer.
  7. Dry your racks and put them in your sparkling clean oven, along with anything else you removed in the beginning.
  8. Voila – you’re finished! Be sure to make a lovely home-cooked meal in your sparkling clean oven.
